About Dublin International Piano Competition

The Dublin International Piano Competition is an international piano competition that has been held once every three years since it began in 1988 in Dublin, the capital city of Ireland. (The recent event was postponed for one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was held in 2022.)

After a preliminary screening process that included video recording from over 200 applicants, the field was narrowed down to 65 contestants for the first round. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first round was changed to an online-only video judging format. The 28 contestants who made it through to the quarterfinals gathered in Dublin. The quarterfinals took place on May 17–19, the semifinals (12contestants) on May 21–22, and the finals (four contestants) on May 24. For the finals, the four finalists performed a concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, conducted by Gerhard Markson, at the National Concert Hall with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, in attendance.
